It’s important to have a solid email management system (EMS) on which to grow your email list. A 3rd party system, like Aweber or InfusionSoft will ensure that your messages rarely get flagged as spam or junk mail.
There are many ways to shoot yourself in the foot when sending email, from your messages being unreadable by recipients, to being slapped with hefty fines due to violation of the Federal CAN-SPAM Act.
I make sure your system optimizes benefits, and avoids as many risks as possible.
A simple call to “join our newsletter” without any explanation of benefits usually results in low signup rates. It’s better to offer specific information, some form of education, or access to a special event or section on your website. The more enticing you can make it for first time visitors to start a relationship with your site, the more effective your website will be.
Your email list needs regular communication so it doesn’t wither and die, but too much of the wrong type of communication will motivate your subscribers to do nothing but unsubscribe.
As long as you are providing valuable content to your list – as opposed to just asking them to buy your products all the time – you ensure that your email is not only welcomed, but its arrival anticipated.
